Worm Workshop: Anthelmintic Resistance

About this Talk

As a senior lecturer in parasitology at the University of Bristol, Dr Laura Peachy explores anthelmintic resistance and talks through findings from her recent research that was funded by the HBLB, EBF and TBA.

Dr Laura Peachey BVSc, PHd qualified in Veterinary Science from the University of Liverpool in 2007, having intercalated with a bachelor of science in veterinary pathology at the Royal Veterinary College in 2005. Following a clinical internship in equine medicine and surgery at the University of Liverpool and a research project investigating an outbreak of neurological disease in donkeys in Gambia, Laura performed a research assistant role at the University of Liverpool in 2010 evaluating the potential of bioactive plant compounds to treat equine gastrointestinal parasites in Ethiopia. Her research at Liverpool subsequently evolved into a PHd focusing on resistance of equine small strongyles to wormers and alternative control methods for treating these parasites. Following this in 2006, she was awarded a fellowship from the Horserace Betting Levy Board, the Thoroughbred Breeders Association and the European Breeders Fund in order to continue research into investigating horse-parasite-bacteria interactions in small strongyle infections at the University of Cambridge.
