About this course

This modular and fully accessible course is aimed at anyone who is assisting in the preparation of yearlings for the sales, and will support your knowledge of:

  • Introduction: What is meant by yearling preparation

  • Module 1: Before the preparation period 

  • Module 2: Nutrition 

  • Module 3: Conditioning/exercising 

  • Module 4: Foot, coat and dental care 

  • Module 5: Behaviour 

  • Module 6: Promotion, pre-sales examinations and paperwork

Featuring videos and interviews from industry experts, the courses focuses on the following learning outcomes

  • Understand the importance of attention to detail prior to yearling preparation 

  • Recognise the importance of assessing yearlings prior to preparation  

  • Understand the importance of suitable feed, conditioning and exercise regimes

  • Understand the value of monitoring and adjusting regimes as necessary

  • Recognise how to prepare yearlings for sales day

  • Recognise the importance of promotion, pre-sales examinations and preparing both horse and handlers for the sale day

Learners can complete the course in their own time and at their own pace. There's a short quiz at the end of each module, a Further Resources document for download at the end of the course, and a certificate available upon successful completion of all modules and quizzes.
