Course Title: The Reproductive Tract 
Programme: Getting the Mare in Foal Programme (Course 1) 

Overview: 
This first course provides essential knowledge of equine reproductive anatomy as the foundation for understanding fertility optimisation in thoroughbred breeding. Learners will explore the location, structure and function of organs involved in conception and pregnancy maintenance. 

Suitable for: Owner/breeders, stud farm managers and employees, equine studies students and anyone with an interest in equine reproduction. 

Learning Outcomes: 

Upon completion, participants will be able to: 

• Recognise the organs in the genital tract and their roles in conception and maintaining pregnancy 

• Understand how the reproductive system functions as an integrated whole 

• Identify the protective mechanisms that prevent uterine infection 

• Explain how external factors (daylight, hypothalamus, pituitary glands) influence reproductive cycling 

• Apply anatomical knowledge to practical breeding management contexts

Assessment: Completion quiz with downloadable certificate available through TB-Ed dashboard. 

Accreditation: BHA CPD accredited.
